ARCoR hosted the launch of Cold War Diplomacy, the new volume signed by Acad. Prof. Dr. Mircea Malița
Cold War Diplomacy, the volume published by Acad. Prof. Dr. Mircea Malița, the founder of ARCoR, was launched on the 6th of October in Romania. Written by a diplomat with a long and distinguished career, with an activity carried out mostly during the years of turmoil, before the fall of the Iron Curtain, the book starts with the missile crises in Cuba. The content is extremely valuable, mainly because the author was an eye witness of the crises, at ONU, New York. However, the book treats many other events and aspects of the time, with high relevance for history and diplomacy.
Though Mircea Malița modestly mentioned that he can hardly consider that it was a merit to be present at these important events, he did emphasize that the book could be regarded as a history of the Cold War, with a focus on Romania and the country’s capacity to be active during that time. He chose to begin his book with this particular chapter because it was a key moment in modern history, a time of major change, when Kennedy was assassinated and Hrușciov was relieved of his position. Romania was slowly gaining a fragile independence and the author describes several events, given that he was a Romanian active diplomat.
The event was attended by ARCoR members, personalities and members of the Executive Committee of ARCoR, as well as Honorary Members. In the presence of the author, the opening was hosted by the President of ARCoR, Mugur Isărescu and the General Secretary, Liviu Tudor. The book has generated high interested in the local media, with many pages dedicated to the launch of this important volume. Mircea Malița is also one of the authors of “No limits to learning”, one of the reports to the Club of Rome that really impacted, worldwide, the subject in matter: education.
