ARCoR launches the Romanian translation of THE END OF PROGRESS – HOW MODERN ECONOMICS HAS FAILED US, signed by Graeme Maxton, Secretary General CoR
ARCoR hosted a most notable event, dedicated to the official visit of the Secretary General of CoR, Mr. Graeme Maxton and the launch of the Romanian translation of his book, THE END OF PROGRESS – HOW MODERN ECONOMICS HAS FAILED US, respectively "Sfârșitul progresului – cum ne-a înșelat așteptările gândirea economică modernă"
The special evening was hosted by the National Bank of Romania and attended by the Executive Committee of ARCoR, former Presidents of Romania, former Ministers, members of ARCoR, scholars, entrepreneurs, bankers and members of the business community. Mr. Graeme Maxton has gracefully accepted the invitation extended by the Executive Committee of the Romanian Association for the Club of Rome.
The Secretary General of ARCoR, Mr. Liviu Tudor, held a short introductory speech, while acknowledging the fact that the Romanian Association for the Club of Rome is most honored to receive a visit from the Secretary General of CoR, a year after his instating. His visit, accompanied by Mrs. Bernice Maxton-Lee, who’s currently working on a PhD on the forests of Indonesia and the alarming rate of forest destruction, was saluted by all the members of ARCoR.
The presentation held by the special guest included a thorough analysis of the current state: the gap between rich and poor, between developed and underdeveloped countries; the evolution of the GDP of most countries under the current economic approach, as well as very compelling data about carbon emissions. The undeniable relationship between modern economics and the state of the environment constituted the main topic of discussion.
Several ARCoR members have raised questions and engaged in a vivid dialog with Mr. Graeme Maxton, who elegantly responded to each intervention. The message of his presentation was very articulated and appreciated by the participants.
The autograph session following the launch of the Romanian translation was also a highlight of the evening, as all the guests were very interested in taking a signed copy of the book and study the argumentation of the author.
The book was published in Romania by the Romanian Association for the Club of Rome and the Tudor Foundation. The next issue of BALANCE, a Club of Rome Magazine, will feature a presentation of the event, as well as an interview with the Secretary General of CoR, Mr. Graeme Maxton.
